December. A month that symbolizes the celebration of Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa, gift giving, and family quality time. The KLJ Way team took time this season to, “Pay it Forward.”
Having a national team, the team members took part in two great volunteer opportunities, in the cities of Boston and Atlanta.
Our Atlanta team volunteered at St. Francis Table in Atlanta, GA. St. Francis Table operates out of, The Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, and feeds 300 to over 500 individuals every Saturday. St. Francis Table feeds all those that are hungry. Individuals are able to stay until they have received their fill on soup, sandwiches, coffee, and a cold drink. St. Francis receives much of their ingredients from donations or purchases made from Atlanta Community Food Bank. If you are in the Atlanta area, and interested in volunteering or would like to donate to St. Francis Table, click HERE.
The Boston team was provided the opportunity to volunteer at Community Servings, a Massachusetts based nonprofit organization, located in Jamaica Plain, MA. Community Servings provides medically tailored, made from scratch, nutritious meals to chronically ill individuals living with HIV/AIDS, cancer, diabetes, kidney disease, and much more. Majority of Community Servings clients (94%) live in poverty, and range in the age of 1-102 years old. Community Servings is not a meal program that just caters to the individual, but also provides meals to their dependent family and caregiver. KLJ Way made over 400 cookies from scratch, that will be used for desserts for the children that receive their tailor-made meals. If you are in the Boston area and are interested in learning more and/or volunteering at Community Servings, click HERE. With a donation of $6.00, one can provide a day of meals to the chronically ill. To make a donation to Community Servings, click HERE.
The KLJ Way team was humbled by our volunteering experiences, and we look forward to our next, “Pay it Forward,” project.
