“Growing up as a kid, I was looking for somebody — not to give me anything — but somebody that cared.”– Nipsey Hussle

You may or may not know his music but here’s something everyone should know about the late Los Angeles-based musician Ermias Joseph Asghedom (August 15, 1985 – March 31, 2019), known professionally as Nipsey Hussle.
Nipsey was one of few artists who in life made a monumental impact, not just with his music but by investing in his own community and creating resources designed to empower the children residing there. In partnership with David Gross he created Vector90, a local Los Angeles coworking space (with private offices, shared work spaces, and business/commercial grade IT support) that houses a STEM program/center for inner city youth called “Too Big to Fail.” The center promotes creativity and networking, while building a bridge between Silicon Valley and other inner cities across the US in an effort to increase diversity in STEM.
According to their site, “Too Big To Fail” was coined to reflect the idea that certain institutions in our society are so large and interconnected that their failure would be catastrophic for the entire economy, and therefore must be supported by the broader public when facing potential failure. Our inner cities are “Too Big To Fail” but despite their size and potential, have yet to receive the necessary support.
Honoring his legacy and philanthropy we recognize and applaud Nipsey Hussle.
“There’s a narrative that says, ‘Follow the athletes, follow the entertainers.’ And that’s cool but there should be something that says, ‘Follow Elon Musk.’ I think that with me being influential as an artist and young and coming from the inner city, it makes sense for me to be one of the people that’s waving that flag.” – Nipsey Hussle
